Our Thematic focus
Land & Ocean Regeneration
We are deeply committed to revitalising degraded ecosystems - both terrestrial and marine - to restore their health, enhance biodiversity, and strengthen climate resilience and human well-being. Grants within this funding stream aim to reduce carbon emissions, support carbon sinks (land, coastal, and ocean), and advance environmental justice.
Tax Justice
We believe that taxation can be a powerful driver of equity, democracy, and sustainability. To fulfil this potential, tax systems must be transparent and equitable, ensuring that everyone contributes their fair share to society. Grants within this funding stream aim to address tax evasion, support fair tax systems, and reshape public attitudes toward taxation.
Free, independent, verified media
We support a media ecosystem where journalism operates without censorship, political interference, or commercial manipulation, and where information is fact-checked, accountable, and trustworthy. Grants within this funding stream aim to tackle misinformation, support investigative journalism, and strengthen the media ecosystem to safeguard democracy.
Other
Discretionary grants allow for flexible and streamlined capital allocation, enabling us to remain responsive, agile, and relationship-driven. Grants within this funding stream typically focus on issues beyond our core themes and are often aimed at addressing the symptoms rather than the root causes of social and environmental challenges.
Education that grows responsible humans
We support organisations that drive behavioural, policy, and structural change toward a more inclusive and sustainable society. Grants within this funding stream aim to foster a mindset shift, cultivating individuals who act with responsibility, empathy, and a strong sense of global citizenship.
A Systems Change Approach
PFC’s philanthropy is rooted in a commitment to transforming the underlying structures, policies, and dynamics that sustain social and environmental challenges.
We focus on tackling the root causes, rather than simply alleviating the symptoms.
We focus on tackling the root causes, rather than simply alleviating the symptoms.
Structural Change
We enable long-term, systemic transformation by changing harmful or discriminatory policies, rules, regulations or resource flows. Example: We provide grants to organisations or movements that work towards legal reforms for climate or economic justice.
Relational Change
We tackle the underlying conditions of a problem by changing unfair power dynamics or relations between various actors of the system. Example: We provide grants to organisations or movements that empower historically marginalised communities or foster strategic alliances between various stakeholders of the ecosystem.
Transformational Change
We aim to change perspectives, thinking models or deeply held beliefs towards more equitable and sustainable ways of operating. Example: We provide grants to organisations or movements that shift public perception and media narratives from fear-based or ego-centric messages to solutions-oriented and constructive storytelling.
Our operating principles
Flexible funding
Our funding approach prioritises trust, responsiveness, and long-term impact. The vast majority of our grants are in the form of general operating support, with a duration of three years.
Effectiveness lens
Our objective is to achieve measurable, meaningful, and lasting results. We strive to maximise positive impact while remaining sensitive to the social, cultural, and historical context of the issues we address.
Invite-only selection process
Our grantmaking is curated and strategic. We source grant opportunities via research and trusted partnerships and do not accept unsolicited proposals.
Collaboration & Partnerships
Our grantmaking process is inherently collaborative. We believe that lasting impact is only possible through shared understanding, mutual trust, and collective intelligence.
Non-financial support
Organisations need more than funding to make a lasting impact. Whenever possible, we provide additional support by sharing skills, knowledge, networks and other non-financial assets.
Discover our philanthropic portfolio
At PFC, we see philanthropy and investments as complementary forms of capital deployment. This integrated strategy fosters coherence across our portfolio, amplifies impact, and promotes a values-aligned use of capital for the common good.
That's why our portfolio includes both grants and investments.
